Easter Monday in our beautiful country is celebrated as Family Day, a special time set aside for us to come together under one roof with the people we hold dearest.

The holiday is a much-needed opportunity to hit pause on our busy lives and appreciate the company of our parents, siblings, children, spouses, and extended family. After long hours at work and busy schedules, it’s all too easy to let relationships slide. But today, we put our loved ones first.

This day celebrates all kinds of familiesnot just those you’re born into, but also the families you’ve chosen through friendship, partnership, and mentorship. Acknowledge those in your life who provide you with unwavering support, compassion, and a sense of home.

Take time to soak in the simple joy of togetherness. Ditch devices and distractions. Tune into each other instead. Make your favourite family recipes, do favourite family activities, and share your favourite family stories.

For me, family is everything. It’s having people who stand by me when I stumble; whose support makes any dream feel possible. It’s having a soft place to land and shoulders to lean on. It’s the comfort of familiar voices and the warmth of cherished memories.

I’m grateful every day for the family I was born into and the family I’ve chosen along the way.

However you define family, I hope you emerge with strengthened bonds and full hearts on this holiday.

And if sorrow has left an empty chair at your table, may the spirit of those passed on fill you with love on this day.

I wish all those travelling a safe journey back to the arms of loved ones. For those still on the road, take care.
