This time of year holds special meaning for many in the Christian community as Easter approaches. As people of faith, my family and I have always felt a kinship with our Christian brothers and sisters. At the Gurdwara Sahib Johannesburg, we welcome people of all faiths with open arms. There is room for all under the shelter of God’s love.

This most blessed of seasons marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His sacrifice cleansed humanity of its sins, and His rising fulfilled ancient prophecies and opened the gates of heaven. Christians celebrate this divine gift of salvation and eternal life.

On this special day, I think of the Easter traditions that bring people together and turn their hearts towards heaven. The eggs that symbolise new life. The lilies that trumpet The hymns that lift voices in praise. And, of course, that first Easter meal, when the astonished disciples knew their Lord once again in the breaking of the bread. Even now, He makes Himself known whenever his followers break bread together.

Remember the sacrifices made by Jesus and carry his spirit forward. Be the light and love he exemplified. Spread joy, practice forgiveness, and live with purpose.

I hope your Easter overflows with blessings. Relish the time with loved ones. Savour your favourite foods and treats. Make happy memories. Have faith in brighter days ahead. Jesus defeated death so that you may have eternal life. This divine gift is the essence of Easter.
