The Warrior Saint

Born in 1666, Patna Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh Ji is among the most venerated spiritual guides and noble leaders. He was a warrior, a poet, and most notably the Tenth Guru of Sikhism. Guru Gobind Singh ji not only added substantial momentum to Sikhism but his teachings resonated with other faiths like Hinduism and Islam, bringing together diverse people under the broad banner of selflessness and peace. Following his father Guru Tegh Bahadur ji’s footsteps, Guru Gobind Singh Ji depicted an unwavering commitment to safeguard Hinduism from eradication. His father sacrificed his life in defense of religious freedom, and Guru Gobind Singh ji, took it upon himself to champion his father’s cause with even more fervour. He possessed an insightful vision for the future of Sikhism. Transformative as he was, Guru Gobind Singh ji took it upon himself to shape the passive Sikhs into fearless warriors, embodying self-defence and the spirit of fearlessness. Throughout his life, Guru Gobind Singh ji championed interfaith peace but never hesitated to draw swords against tyranny. Among his most courageous battles were the Battle of Anandpur Sahib and the Battle of Chamkaur. Vastly outnumbered, Guru Gobind Singh ji and his army of devoted Khalsa warriors stood strong and unshaken. When a fellow Sikh warrior was struck down, another would immediately step up and take his place. Guru Gobind Singh ji’s sons displayed valour beyond their years. Following an attack on Anandpur Sahib, the two of his yongers sons of his four sons, Zorawar Singh (9) and Fateh Singh (7), were captured and buried alive for refusing to change their religion their faith. His beloved mother, Mata Gujari, passed away, grief stricken, after learning about their deaths. Within a week, his elder sons Ajit Singh (18) and Jujhar Singh (14) lost their lives in the battle of Chamkaur. Through it all, Guru Gobind Singh Ji remained steadfast to his mission.
